_____________
In my ongoing effort to make quilting sustainable, I give you my first pattern, French Kisses -- all published and ready to go!
And I feel really grateful...
Grateful I will no longer be agonizing over how to design the cover (which I hope you like)
Or grateful I'm not sitting at the computer editing...
Or grateful I'm not still trying to figure out EQ7 and come up with cute virtual quilt options (like this one in Vintage Modern)...
You know, it's just exciting to be "done."
This quilt measures 64" x 80" -- so it makes a good twin or big throw size. You can see that it very nicely covers my tall husband while he snoozes on the couch.
The design is a result of day-dreaming while Scarlet was eating, and we were the only two awake in the house. It dawned on me that two of my favorite block designs could interact nicely. Rouenneries Deux had yet to be released at the time, but I thought it might be a good design to justify adding to my French General stash.
I already had some Secret Garden stashed, so I made some test blocks (and then kept going) until I had enough blocks to make a quilt for our bed (this one is actually on its way back to me now from Lindsay, and I can't wait to see it -- and sleep under it)
"The hubs" got me a FQ bundle of Rouenneries Deux for Christmas, and as soon as the yardage was released, I went about to finishing this quilt.
Lindsay of Eileen quilts did the long-arm quilting for me, and it is so beautiful; I love the big roses all over.
________________________________
I have made this quilt design twice now, and my friend Kelly tested it for me. The blocks are big, come together quickly (remember I made both of these with a newborn not yet sleeping through the night... which she's still not doing, but she's cute nonetheless), and have lots of movement. It's also got a great spot for fussy cutting or big focal prints (though you might need to figure in extra fabric, depending on how you cut it).
This one was made by Kelly at KelbySews |

So if you like it, and want me to do your math for you, or just need a way to use up an extra layer cake or fat quarter bundle (yes, fat eighths should work fine, but I didn't create explicit directions for them) you have, then I'd love for you to buy my first pattern.
There are directions for using either a layer cake or fat quarters, and I've included a bonus layer cake pattern (called "Just Hugs"), because hey, we all love a bonus (and it was a cool design).
The pattern is a pdf file that will be emailed to you immediately after purchase, and includes detailed and diagrammed instructions for how to cut and construct your own. I did not write up the directions for the larger size, but if you'd like to join our quilt along, I'd be happy to help you with the math for adding blocks (you would pretty much just double the fabric if making the size I made in Secret Garden pictured above).
To celebrate and launch my new pattern, I'm also giving away this layer cake of Rouenneries Deux, along with a copy of the pattern (and I'll probably give away another copy of the pattern too).
To enter the giveaway:
- Leave me a nice comment {can be about the pattern, how to potty train an almost three year old boy who is as (cute and) stubborn as his father, how cute Scarlet is, how cute I am, how your day is going, whatever}.
- Pin, Blog, or Facebook with a link to my pattern for a second entry and leave a comment telling me so.
I do hope to have this as a paper pattern, but honestly don't understand all the goings of getting a paper pattern published yet, but I'm learning!
Thank you, and I hope you all like French Kisses.
♥ ♥ ♥
P.S. -- If you buy it and then win, I'll refund your purchase. :)

Congratulations on a really beautiful quilt! I love it in French General, but also the Vintage Modern!
ReplyDeleteYour pattern is just lovely. I love the colorway you chose. How did you accomplish with a newborn? Good luck with more pattern design. Good job.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing the writing of your pattern. I have a layer cake here that is earmarked for this one :o) hugs, Sharon
ReplyDeleteCongratulation on your first pattern - it's gorgeous and I'd love to make it out of Rouennaries scraps (or that sweet layer cake)!
ReplyDeleteI love your pattern. Must be so much fun to see it in print. I had 5 boys and they just take their time! when you don't worry about it just seems to take care of itself!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Lyn
Love the pattern!!!! And bribe him with popsicles while on the potty. Spend a weekend with the whole focus on potty. Lots of bribery/encouragement with cold and salty things to encourage much drinking and lots of peeing. : ) good luck!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first pattern. A wise woman told me when my children were small to not fight over the potty training. When they are ready it will click. No one has gone to kindergarten in diapers.
ReplyDeleteah, potty training a boy - not as easy as it seems! The big 'break through' my oldest son had when he was *just* 3 - was hanging out with another 3-year old boy who potty'd outside. My son thought that was way cooler than the toilet and he was trained after that. So, my advice would be for him to hang out with a same age or slightly older boy who is potty trained :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the pattern sales, it's an awesome pattern!
Congratulations! Its a lovely pattern and a fabulous start to the beginning of your empire. Your cover is great - up to date & fun, without taking away from the pretty quilt. Nicely done all around!
ReplyDeleteA very lovely design and quilting - beautiful! Congratulations on a lovely pattern and your first! thanks for the generous giveaway!
ReplyDeleteCute, cute, cute, cute - the pattern, you, Steiger, and Scarlett! I love the quilt - especially the way the blocks "bleed" out into the border! And a chance to win, too? Woohoo!!
ReplyDeleteWow! what a major accomplishment, to write a pattern and all that entails, all the while chasing a 3 yr old bound and determined to stay in diapers FOREVER! AND a baby that is averse to sleep?! I'm exhausted just contemplating all that! Girl, you need a spa vacation!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting it done! It looks fabulous. I like that you've shown the quilt in a couple of different colour ways / fabric types. Sometimes it's hard to see past the fabric to the pattern, so it's useful to see a couple of variations.
ReplyDeleteGoing for a second entry - Pinned, Facebooked and Tweeted!! I think that covers them all!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pattern! I like both, but especially love the vintage modern. I have a layer cake I just bought that would be perfect for this I think! Thanks!
ReplyDeletevery nice, and i love the pattern name! potty training is never easy! but reading lots of books about potty training helped us...one by mister rogers is good. good luck!
ReplyDeleteI love your pattern. I hope I get a copy!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could give you some advice on potty training cute little boys, but mine is still wearing size 6 diapers...arg!! So, I will just tell you how cute you and your kids are :)
ReplyDeleteThis pattern is lovely - great work!!
ReplyDeleteOn potty training - put a potty right smack-dab in front of the TV. I'm not proud of it, but it is the only thing that worked ;-/
Congrats on your first pattern!! It's lovely :)
ReplyDeletePinned youre great pattern!

Your first pattern is awesome. The icing on the cake is it's made with French General, my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThe pattern is beautiful and I'd love to win a copy! I'd rather not remember my potty training days with my boys...
ReplyDeleteI LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pattern outcome and your use of contrasting colors in just the right places! I'd be honored to win. Congratulations on such a huge accomplishment with a newborn!!!
ReplyDeleteThe pattern really is so pretty! And I can sympathize with the potty training; it's one of the worst parts of parenting toddlers.
ReplyDeleteThose are some beautiful quilts! And it looks like a great pattern! Good luck with potty-training your little guy, it's not going so great over here with my stubborn little man either :p
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, love the colors. Try trowing some Cheerios in the toilet and let him see if he can hit them.
ReplyDeletecongratulations!!! it looks wonderful. and if you find out potty training tips for an incredibly stubborn child, send them my way!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt - and no help on the 3 year old... mine was 4 1/2 and then some and INCREDIBLY stubborn....
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern. I really like that a few of the blocks kind of sneak into the border, very cute!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. I know it is such a big accomplishment so I'm really happy for you. It's a beautiful quilt and a beautiful design. I love the cover too.
ReplyDeleteAmber Johnson
It is a lovely quilt - congratulations! It looks like such a versatile design - would look good in anything I decide to make it in!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great Tracey. I like seeing it on your husband for perspective of the size of the diamonds. :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! And would love to have the pattern. Thanks
ReplyDeletePinned this to my 'Quilty Things' board.
ReplyDeleteLove it love it love it! Congrats on finishing the pattern; will be buying this one.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the quilt pattern being finished! with a newborn in the house, you rock!
ReplyDeleteas to the potty training a 3 year old boy...mine was going potty under the hedge, like the kitty, when ever I turned my back for 20 seconds! How embarrasing, lol. We went to stay with grandma for 3 weeks and I told him she would not like it at all if he pottied in her yard, and he started going in the bathroom as he should. I hope you don't have to go through that. One day soon he will just decide to be a big boy and potty where he should, along with an endless list of other big boy things. Then as a mom you'll give a big sigh. Good luck.
Yippee Skippee Tracey!!!! I love it!!! Fabulous :) And that editing is a real drag. I bet you are so excited to see it all done :) And I love the cover, it is fabulous :) As far as potty training, my boys loved cheerios in the potty and then they would try and sink them :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe that you're able to quilt period!! I just haven't been able to get coordinated since having my son. Maybe you should make a post on the little tips and tricks you employ to get sewing machine time. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and by potty in the hedge I meant the stinky kind of potty, still laughing 24 years later
ReplyDeleteYour first pattern is lovely and I particularly like it in French General. Would love to win the layer cake!! As for potty training a 3 yr. old, I would love to read the hints you get, as my almost 4 yr. old pees in the toilet, but refuses to poo. His mother has HAD IT with changing poopy pull ups! - so any new ideas would be great! All I can say, is there are a lot of 3 and 4 yr. old boys not trained in the world............
ReplyDeleteI pinned your new pattern.
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable, the pattern is fabulous and Steiger will use the potty when he's good and ready and not a minute before, if my own experience is anything to go by. Helpful, yes?
ReplyDeleteThat's a really striking pattern. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely pattern, congratulations! I look forward to making another quilt my hubby will enjoy. Maybe this could be it! ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first pattern! I love how different it looks in Secret Garden.
ReplyDeleteI have been credited for training a lot of toddlers (daycare) but really, it only happens when they want. Having differing ages of children sure helps, as all the little boys want to be big boys! I also think that once it's mostly just stubborness holding them back, giving them control over other things in their life can help. Even 'bribing' with choices. "If you are a big boy & try to pee in the potty today, you can pick what we eat for lunch." Once he starts doing it, I'll bet he'll never look back! I have heard of ppl putting an ice cube in the toilet for target practice...that sounds fun too! lol Good luck! Scarlet will be easier ;)
How exciting to be releasing your first pattern - I really like it. Thanks for the nice giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Pin: http://pinterest.com/pin/282249101616667575/
ReplyDeleteI love the way you made it in French General. Really amazing design. Thank you for the chance to win the pattern and make it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Quilt!
ReplyDeleteCongratulaions on getting to the Finished Stage, Huge Achievement,
I love it in Vintage Modern!
i really love the quilt! so pretty and i really love the diamonds extending into the border. it looks amazing! if i don't win, i will be buying! ;)
ReplyDeleteYour first pattern is beautiful....I love all three examples of the quilt.....especially the Vintage Modern....could you make it with Fat Eighths...as we just got some in at the shop I work at....Karen
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pattern! I love seeing it in different fabrics too.
ReplyDeleteThe way to potty train an almost 3 year old boy - bribery! We finally bribed our son (who is now almost 20) with a PUPPY!! Yup, it worked and he got a beautiful black lab puppy. One of our son's nicknames was Mook. So the dog's registered name was Mookie's Liberation (meaning that Mook was liberated from diapers!) and the dog's name for all of us to call her was Libby. Sadly she has been gone for a couple of years now but they truly did love each other and the bribery was totally worth it.
Correction - my son was OVER 3 years old when potty trained! OY!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful pattern ~ CONGRATS! It's amazing how different it looks with the choices of fabrics too!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your pattern! It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful, congrats on your first pattern! Whether or not I win *fingers crossed* I'll be joining in the quilt along :-)
ReplyDeleteYay, Tracey! The pattern looks fabulous! Congratulations :)
ReplyDeleteWe potty trained Adeline in January by letting run run naked (outside) for a few days then kept the undies on and gave treats of course for peeing in the potty. We are in AZ though so it may not be quite as feasible for prolonged outdoor nakedness where you are just yet!
Wow, you are so talented! I could never do what you do!
ReplyDeleteAs for potty training..... bribery usually works. Like, "let's keep a chart, and every time you use the potty, you get a sticker and a little something wonderful (candy?)...... and when you get 10 stickers, you get a big something wonderful (special toy?)...., besides, you're a big boy now, and you don't need diapers anymore like that baby, Scarlet."
And if he doesn't get it by nice weather, just let him roam around outside, nude, when it is warm. That also helps them to get the concept pretty quick... and no inside mess or extra laundry for you!
Wow, love the pattern and I can't believe you designed it when you had a newborn! I don't have good advice on potty training other than that i think they will do it when ready. That and different rewards seemed to help my guy-- he gets different little food goodies depending on whether he tries, goes #1 or goes #2. good luck!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! It's such a gorgeous quilt :-) I'll be keeping my eye open for a paper pattern to stock in my store.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! your first pattern is really amazing. I love the French General version but the modern one is great, too.
ReplyDeleteI love it! And I really like the cover :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! In fact, I just bought it in your shop (which I rarely do since I have so many projects stacked up and waiting....). I can't wait to get started.
ReplyDeleteFabulous pattern. Congratulations on your first pattern. Now when's the second due?
ReplyDeleteI love your version, - it was Kelly who sent me here!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the potty training - I remember the joys of 'doing' the twins!
I have pinned it - good luck to you, and good luck to me ;)
ReplyDeletei love the new pattern- and love that there are several versions! congrats! thanks for the chance to win it!
ReplyDeleteCongrat's on your new pattern! All I can say after raising two sons, good luck!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new pattern release. Very fresh and modern design!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt design! Potty training happens when they are ready. Don't stress over much on it. I used to tell myself, they're aren't many adults out living on their own still in pullups. They all get there eventually. Enjoy the moment:) and have a huge celebration when he 'gets' it! I pinned the pattern too! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I love your new pattern!
ReplyDeleteHang on in there with the potty training - they all get there in the end! I think the secret is not to stress about it!
I love your pattern!
ReplyDeleteThe red one it's stunning.
I'll post it on my Facebook ;)
Good luck!
This is a really lovely design! Congratulations! It is very pretty in the French General line, but think it would translate to many fabrics! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOh I am so excited to see this released! I know what I'll be working on this weekend!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first pattern release. I love that you have shown it in various colorways. I have started my Rouenneries collection.

ReplyDeleteMontse Pérez
Love this pattern! looks tricky and interesting and I love it pointing into the border - crossing fingers and toes!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Tracey!
ReplyDeletePotty training. pfffft. hahaha. hehehe. right. I'm stalking your comments for tips, because my 3.5 year old still has a fear of.. well... he pees just fine. I'll leave it at that.
Yes your kids are adorable. And I love those names!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI pinned the link to this post!!
ReplyDeleteI love this! You did a great job and if I don't win I will be buying the pattern :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your beautiful first new pattern! I have twin girls who will be three next month.
ReplyDeleteOne just potty trained over the last two weeks. I encouraged her by giving her one chocolate chip for every time she peed and two chocolate chips for poop. I also told her that we could go to pick out her big girl panties when she had kept her pull ups dry for one week. It worked! The other is stubborn, too. She does not care about chocolate chips or big girl panties. For the other, I think I am going to try giving her a sticker for every success. She loves stickers and loves to have people look at her. he will love to show and tell to every person with a pulse her stickers...I am hoping. Good luck.
What a gorgeous pattern. And I LOVE the French General fabric!!! I've been hooked on FG since it first came out.
ReplyDeleteHow eciting! Congrats! Would love to win this super cute quilt :)
ReplyDeleteHow eciting! Congrats! Would love to win this super cute quilt :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern! Congrats! Can't help with the potty training a boy - Had a girl and it was a long time ago - LOL. But, I have to say, at 23, she is potty trained. My dog, now that's another issue - LOL!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on such a major accomplishment. I love the pattern and the fabric (French General)selection.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance at your drawing
I would love to win a copy of this pattern!
ReplyDeleteAnother quilt pattern to add to my so, so long queue. I love it!
ReplyDeletei was with kelly when she was putting the top all together. it looks great - i'd love to win a copy!
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern! As for potty training, keep introducing it and let them take the lead. If you do it and not let them control it, it will just be a big mess. My daughter decided she was going to try a month before her 3rd birthday and we are still struggling 2 months later. It gets better.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first pattern! What an accomplishment, especially with a newborn in the house. I'm thinking of joining the QAL as soon as I know if this baby is a boy or girl...three more weeks until our ultrasound!
ReplyDeleteAs for the potty training, I've trained two little boys using the e-book I purchased at 3daypottytraining.com. The first child was out ouf diapers at 29 months, and 32 months for the second. I highly recommend it!
You know I tried to be the first one to buy ;)! but I just wanted to say that I think you are amazing and this is just a great quilt pattern!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Congratulations! If I won I would make it right away.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first pattern, but I don't just like it...I LOVE IT!!!! Especially in French General. Scarlet is a beautiful name but I may be biased...my Gt Niece is also called Scarlet!!
ReplyDeleteMy son is almost 3, and has no interest in potty training! It is so hard. What's even worse is when I try and sit him on the potty - he cries!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Tracey! Do you know when you're beginning the quilt-along?
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for your new venture! I will be happy to follow your journey.
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern. Just bought some fabric that I think will great in this pattern. Thanks for the giveaway and for your talent. pegwatkins@comcast.net

ReplyDeleteI like the pattern and think it's a great idea to give directions for both fat quarters and a layer cake since so many of us like pre-cuts. Congratulations on your first pattern.
ReplyDeleteYour first pattern is amazing! Congratulations on the beautiful work :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Tracey! I LOVE your first pattern..."French Kisses". Congrats on such a great design, especially with a newborn!
ReplyDeletePotty training sometimes is quite difficult...if the child really does NOT cooperate, I'd drop it for a week, and re-try. Also, get his daddy involved in this. Little bribes along the way are a great help. Good luck with the training!
Hope little Scarlet is doing well.
Hugs, Karen
I LOVE your pattern!! And I really like the red/cream fabric you used even though it's not my usual style. Congrats on writing your first pattern, I'm sure it'll be a big hit!

ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win! Enjoy your kids, do not stress to much about that potty. Some day he will think he is big or confident enough to be trained!
Wow! What a beautiful quilt! :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm I remember the potty training days.... X2 boys at the same time (yes I have twin boys). I had one that got it fairly quickly and one that was very stubborn. The one thing that seemed to help was to put him in big boy underwear. No pull ups, no training pants (daytime only) just the thin cotton underwear. So if he won't go to the bathroom, it will run down his legs. I know it's messy, but we only had a couple accidents where he fully went & was standing in a pond. Otherwise he'd catch himself and run to the bathroom. It was still a challege, but this was something my mil suggested and seemed to help. I also used to spend my days in the bathroom. They had to sit on the pot after meals till they went. Good Luck and eventually he will get it! :)
Gorgeous pattern. It caught my eye immediately on my blog list! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHiya Tracy, Congratulations on your first pattern and a lovely one it is too! Love the French General as well and, since you are asking :-), both your kids are adorable and it is such a joy to see them grow on the blog. Hope you have much success with the pattern.
ReplyDeletegreat pattern and congrats on finishing it :) Sorry no potty training advise here...will be reading the advise others are giving (I have a 2 year old entering that phase).
ReplyDeleteMy grandson was 4 years old when he was finally trained, back when my daughter was a baby people would have been aghast at a four year old not being trained (70's). She tried everything including pull-ups which I just think give them permission to pee. One day we just put him in underwear and after two accidents on floor he decided he didn't like that and other then an occasional accident he was trained. They just do it when they are ready. Personally I think we tried to train our children too early back in 70's just relax and it will happen.LOL
ReplyDeleteReally love your first pattern it is beautiful colors and just gorgeous.
I love this pattern! It is just so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI also put up a link to this on facebook. :)

ReplyDeleteI also shared your post on FB. Kimberly Rennie
ReplyDeleteCongrats Tracey - lovely pattern! I'm amazed to think of you dreaming it up while nursing your little gal!
ReplyDeletePotty training a three year old boy...start with the toy of his wildest dreams, visible, but out of reach until he stays clean and dry for a week. Waiting until summer is the easiest. Then keep him in swim trunks and play outside. Wading pool to wash up in and a tree to pee behind...summer fun!
ReplyDeletePinned it!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the pattern for your beautiful quilt. As far as potty training that almost 3yo boy, I've been there and almost lost my mind. My husband stepped in and bribed him with M&Ms. I thought it was absurd but it worked and when his Daddy got home in the evening he would give him M&Ms.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first pattern! It's beautiful, Tracey! I especially love it in Secret Garden.
ReplyDeleteMy potty training advice: If he's fighting it, take a break. It may be that he's just not ready yet, and if it's a battle, it's not going to work anyway. My first attempt with Claire was terrible for everyone involved. So we stopped, and three months later I tried again. That time, she was trained literally in one day! I think the trick is to make them think it's their own idea, not yours. : )
Pinned your pattern! : )
ReplyDeleteYes-this is a winner. Red is a favorite color! You are a super multi-tasker!Congrats on the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors you use....they inspire me!!! Thank you for sharing all the tidbits of your day and sewing knowledge it all makes me smile!
ReplyDeletePinned it on Pinterest!!!! Love that we can help you out by putting out there on Pinterest for you!!!! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt and nice pattern.
ReplyDeleteas for potty training.
according to the AAP most boys are not ready until they are almost 3.
I always find little prizes for accomplishment work. Like a basket of little wrapped prizes next to an appropriate sized toilet. given only for positive occurrences.
Lovely quilt! Thanks for pattern giveway! I helped potty train my year old grandson last summer. I did have some little prizes for rewards. He still remembers that and still wants a prize at my house! We went about every two to three hours, no exceptions, and read a book during the process. He smiled so big at his successess.

ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous! I'm here thanks to Kelly's version, and I would love to make one of my own. I enjoyed reading about your process, too!
ReplyDeleteJust purchased the pattern-it is beautiful. Let's see, I think you mentioned to leave a comment about something regarding potty training. My son was a difficult "student" in that area:) I bribed him-daily! Every day he used the potty, off we went to buy him a treasure. Bad I know, but it worked in a week. Fingers crossed that my name is drawn for the fabric:)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the pattern! The colorway you chose is wonderful, but it would work with so many things from dark wools to brights. I've been coveting this fabric! VermontPines at aol dot com
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the pattern! I admire your tenacity! I didn't do much of anything while my babes weren't sleeping through the night! (Although, truth be told, neither of them actually slept through the night on a regular basis until they were 3 years old - and they're 3 years apart, so basically I went with about 7 years of no sleep!)
ReplyDeleteI don't have much advice about the potty training - but Scarlet is GORGEOUS!!!!!!! Thanks for the chance to win!
Blogged about it!
ReplyDeleteOkay...that quilt is gorgeous - congratulations! I would love to win the pattern. Could you throw in the quilt too???? sigh! ! !
ReplyDeleteLol...potty training a boy...hmmmm, I sent my son in with his Dad....they both stand at the potty bowl being Men....ROFL! Hey, it worked. He is the baby and his sisters; one two years older and the other six years older than him went to the bathroom, so he didn't want to wear diapers. As a matter of fact, he trained really early because he didn't want to be left out and having him stand at the bowl with his Dad just cinched it. Voila...nary a problem; he was two.
I love the pattern and the fabric is gorgeous. Good luck and I hoope you design many more you are very talented. I am now a new follower. I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful pattern! I have some of the original Rouenneries that I always wanted to do in something using triangles, this is the perfect fit! And hang in there with the potty training...I had a stubborn 3 year old boy, too...twenty years ago!
ReplyDeleteFrench General is wonderful as a style of fabric for your quilt. I like how your pattern gives variations because Vintage Modern looks great too. I think that reds bring out the beauty of your design. Potty training - never had kids BUT I have 5 grandnieces 6 and under. One would not potty train...until they bought her a musical potty that plays a song when you go...next thing you know... she had trained herself. Another trained because she wanted to go to her "big sister's" softball games...there was some peer pressure involved.
ReplyDeleteOoh how exciting!!! It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first pattern!! I'd love to win such a beauty from such a cutie with an even cuter daughter. :) I have four kids, the youngest still a baby in diapers. My first was 2, and I finally just put her in undies and stayed home for a few days. Kept it positive, but every accident she had to help clean up. Three days and she was potty trained. The 2nd I don't remember. Haha! Except he was three and I could not use pull-ups with him. He just treated those like diapers. I don't remember a clicking moment, so it either gradually happened or was so awful that I blocked it from my memory. Ha!! The third child was easy to get number 1. He was a little under 3. But, he wouldn't number 2. Terrified! So, I resorted to candy bribes, like all good, exhausted moms. Haha! If e went, he got a couple M&M's. :-)
ReplyDeletehow great that you have your first pattern and its super that you showed it in a few colourways..that always helps "sell"it i think! Using a doll for toilet training, as arole model, even for boys, helps ALOT..sadly not many are "boy"dolls, so just tellhim to pretend.. kids do that alot at his age... be consistent but dont stay home!

ReplyDeleteCrossing my fingers for this one! I love this pattern. :)
ReplyDeleteI had a stubborn 3 year old boy who didn't potty train until about 3.5. Nothing motivated (bribed) him until it was time for part day preschool a couple days a week. Once I told him school with friends couldn't start until he went in the potty. That finally got his interest. We tried several times before that but it's so much easier when they're ready.
Love the pattern! It's a great first quilt pattern. I love it in all the fabrics you've shown it in.
ReplyDeleteI've also pinned it to my pin board!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, it's beautiful! I've heard boys are difficult to train, with my daughter it was as easy as buying pretty panties, she trained herself just to wear them. Remember that when Scarlet's older.
ReplyDeleteI Love,Love,Love your pattern! I love symmetry, and it's all about that!
ReplyDeleteAs for potty training - believe me, this will soon be a very distant memory. Just give him a hug and a smile every time he messes. Love him in spite of his "accidents" even when they are not convenient.

Congratulations on putting your pattern together - what a big project.
ReplyDeleteI've been a "lurker" of yours for some time now. I enjoy your quilts very much and I'm so pleased for you that you are publishing your own patterns! This one is a beauty!!

A great pattern, I especially like seeing it made in different fabrics. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I love the pattern and your fabric choice. Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern, and would enjoy making this quilt -- yes, I do have a bit of a stash so it would be interesting in batiks, or 30s, modern, well.. you get the idea!
ReplyDeleteCongrats. Looks like a keeper pattern. I love to see the same pattern in different fabrics and colorways. It looks great in every one. Potty training? All I can say is once its accomplished you say why was I so stressed about it. Just don't make it a battle of wills, cuz the 2-3 year old will win and that's embarrassing. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern. I like your Secret Garden version.
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm impressed! I'm a newer quilter so I can't even imagine all the work that goes into designing such a gorgeous pattern!

Love this pattern and all the colour variations - thanks for sharing. I have pinned this @ Mimi Timms
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your pattern - it is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new pattern, I love it. Glad you shown different color ways. I used a timer to help potty training. First week start out at every 30 min taking him to the potty just to sit (hopefully more would happen) next week 45 min. and so on. Pretty soon he is going on his own.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern & especially love how it looks in the French General fabric, those are not my general go to types of designs or colors, but I love this quilt! Re the potty training, have Daddy show him how as often as possible, that might help.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting ... your first pattern!!! Congratulations! I love it & hope I win. if not, I'll be looking at buying :) Thank you!
ReplyDeletep.s. both my children are girls but I've heard that boys take longer to potty train ... good luck!
Congratulations on your first pattern! It does a wonderful job of showcasing the fabric. My son was almost 3 before he was potty trained. He was just too busy to bother. Actually having him wear regular underwear instead of pull-ups did the trick. He did not like wetting himself. He also wanted a birthday party at McDonald's so we made a bargain:) There is something so wrong with bargaining with a 3 year old:) Best of luck to you!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern :) I can't wait so I am going to purchase it now.
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern!! Ok, I'm going to tackle the potty training topic :) After trying everything with our 3 1/2 year old son,,, from promising him everything to a Buzz Lightyear, Woody, the kitchen radio...etc. We realized as much of a people pleaser he was, he wasn't being stubborn, just scared. We are a gluten free family and it can tricky balancing the fiber, so I added 1/4 cup of prune juice to chocolate milk in the morning (chocolate masks the prune taste almost totally), and we make trips to the bathroom every hour like clockwork and he got a sillyband for every try. At the end of the (long) day, SUCCESS!!! Then after, he realized it wasn't going to hurt. Also we changed the foot stool to the potty so his feet were flat on the stool. It takes the tension away in his legs as he was balancing on the "big" potty already. Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric and Congrats on your first pattern! It is a beautiful quilt!
