It's a...

It's a...

Baby!

There were times I doubted our resolve, but we made it through our ultrasound on Friday without peeking between the legs.

And I'm thrilled with a healthy baby... really and truly.

It's a...

Jay is sure there's a boy in there, and that is what I think too, but I was completely wrong with Steiger, so I don't trust myself.  This baby is measuring right on schedule (Steiger was about a week ahead), so that makes me think maybe there's a chance it's a girl.  During our sonogram, he or she kept playing peek-a-boo with us, and had two hands covering the face most of the time.  The tech had to work hard for those shots. :)

You know, it's funny... when I was pregnant with Steiger, I really wanted to find out.  My priorities though have shifted now.  After the ordeal that was my son's entry in to the world, the infertility struggles of those close to me, the softness and humility that comes from actually being a mom, I really don't care what gender this babe is.  (Besides, I'm having too much fun planning my "If it's a boy" and "If it's a girl" quilts!)

My prayers now are that the baby is healthy and strong, and that he or she meets us without surgery or complication.  If we do need medical intervention, I just want it to be because it is truly necessary, and not because of convenience, an arbitrary ban/policy, or poor medical care.  I'm doing what I can on my end to take care of those things; I suppose I have to trust God with the rest... If you're the praying kind, I covet all your prayers to that end. ♥

I just noticed the follower number is precariously close to reaching a new milestone, and I feel like celebrating the end of school, and a healthy so far pregnancy...

Let's see... I'll give away a half yard each of the dots in the DS Quilts collection.  They're really cute, and appropriate beings that one is more "boy" and one is more "girly."

giveaway

To enter:
- Leave a comment with a boy name suggestion (we're good for girl names, but really stuck with boy names; how do you follow a name like Steiger?)
- Followers get an extra entry.  I think I'll close this on Wednesday.

Now I need to get back to work on finishing up my Goodie Bag Swap ... it's going well so far, but needs to be mailed soon!

Goodie Bag Swap in progress
(Amy Butler's Cosmo bag from Style Stitches)

-----------
* I had a request that I let you know which ones I like... well let's just say that if you and I were naming this baby we'd be great!  Jay and I only agreed on Steiger when he was born.  We didn't even agree on the middle name, but Jay gave me my way and allowed his first name as Steiger's middle name.  If I was naming the next one, he'd be "Dane Allen" ... but Jay doesn't like the name Dane.  I really want to have a name before labor, because whatever happens, it's bound to be intense and really emotional... I can see that cute husband of mine giving me the name I like because he is either so dang proud of me, or wants to give me some relief (or a mixture of both).  I plan to go over these suggestions with him after Steiger goes to bed, so keep 'em coming! :)

* The problem of finding a boys' name is compounded by our last name of "Jacobsen."  It eliminates all the "son" names, and some of the "en" names.

* I've also been a teacher for 6-ish years; I've met a lot of students, and some names are inextricably tied to those pupils of mine... for better or worse. ;)

  1. Congratulations on the healthy baby! And good luck with the VBAC. It *can* be done. My boy name suggestion is Malcolm. A Malcolm I know is called Mac for short, which I think is pretty cool.

  2. And I'm a follower. Thanks for the lovely giveaway, Tracey!

    ReplyDelete
  3. I like Bradley or Alex or maybe Jason, you know, son of Jay ;),but you're right I think it needs to be really original after Steiger, you wouldn't want him to feel slighted.

  4. I follow you waiting patiently for pictures of Steiger. He's too cute.

  5. congrats!
my cousin just had a baby boy on the weekend and named him Denver; has a nice ring to it.

love the bag as well; such fabulous fabric!

  7. Hooray for a healthy baby! I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.

As for a boy name...A friend of mine named her boy Finn recently. I thought that was cute and a little different.

  8. Congratulations - I am so happy for you!

I like the name Malcolm too ;D
but I am sorry I cannot compete with the name Steiger!

  9. Faithful follower, of course! (p.s. loving the goodie bag progress!!)

  10. Congrats on the healthy baby! I wish you a healthy full term baby. (my last was 8 weeks earlier) When I was pregnant I had horrible dreams my hubby filled out the name paperwork while I was sleeping and named him Thaddeus. He didn't (of course)! What about Wade? or Logan (like wolverine from the xmen)

  11. Congratulations for that healthy baby. I think I went through my pregnancies without even thinking there could be problems....until some came. My suggestion for a name is "Cache". I've always liked it.

  12. When I read the title I was thinking you found out and I was shocked! ;)

  13. I'm a follower! Thanks for the opportunity to win some great fabric.

  14. Great sonogram photos! For boy names, how about Oscar, Horace, Everett, Ernest, or Melvin.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Congrats on a healthy baby! I have a Jack (love simple strong names), but I also always have liked Felix and Oscar as still a good strong name, but just a little different.

  16. Oh, and I have had a subscription through Google Reader for quite a while, but am now also a follower! Love your quilts!!

  17. Great news! Congratulations. Names.. so hard to choose. Especially hard if you know someone with that name already. Hudson, Brock, Denton.

  18. I'm glad to hear that your baby is healthy!

Hmmm....hard to top Steiger's name! Maybe Austin? Nicolas? Maxwell (Max)?

  20. So glad to hear you have a healthy, playful baby growing and getting ready to be a part of your family. LOVE the dotted fabric, my favorite from the line. I like Grant or Logan, even George (my daughter babysits a little George).
CUTE purse! I love that damask.

  21. I'm a long time follower. :)

  22. Yay, glad baby is healthy! I'm terrible for boys names, I find girls names much easier. However I do quite like Jonathon. Although it might be a bit plain to go with Steiger.
Bright side of you not finding out girl or boy is that you have an excuse to make lots of boy things and lots of girls things! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks for the chance to win! I am a follower!

    ReplyDelete
  24. My son's name is Brawley, so I'm partial to that one. I have a nephew named Cameron, but he was almost Griffin, which I really like as well. I like Katie B's suggestion of Finn also.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congrats on a healthy baby!! So excited for you! I to am pregnant, but we did find out. We're having our 3rd boy! I'm with you on no gender preference so when people think I'm sad for having all boys I just have to laugh and say "I'm lucky to have 3 healthy babies...regardless of the gender :)" boy names were harder for us too and this time even harder since we used up two of our favorites already. We finally decided on Reid Adler Fleming...but another favorite was Wyatt...which I think goes great with Steiger :) Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Completely agree with your thoughts and prayers - the main thing is a healthy baby.
How about Finn (Finlay)?....it's still one of my favourite names and has stood the test of time, with us, over the last 8 1/2 years. But you are right Steiger is very hard to follow! Juliex P.S. I'd love to get my hands on some of the DS fabric and those would probably have been my top two choices from that line.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm pregnant with my 4th, and we're not finding out either. Our boy name is Owen, but we're stuck on girl names...maybe you could help me out with that? lol. Congratulations on a healthy baby.

    ReplyDelete
  28. So lovely to see you scan pics, thank you for sharing. How about Eddie for a boy's name?

    ReplyDelete
  29. My cousin's son is named Jameson. I also liked that. Good luck on the final stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  30. How about Mason or Carson? Both seem to be kind of popular now.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am a follower! Hooray for a healthy baby, and for the end of the school year (I'm a teacher!!).

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lilli says you should name him Jonathan - that's her imaginary friend's name. She says he's her husband, so we keep waiting for a real Jonathan to show up.....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Congratulations on the healthy baby! That's always such a relief. What about Trejan, Daxton, or Tallen for names? They're my friend's sons' names :) And good luck with the VBAC - you're braver than I was!

    ReplyDelete
  34. And of course I'm a follower!! Congrats on that cute little baby in there - can't wait to see who's right about the gender!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. And I'm a follower. My Joann's was out of the dots, so this would be lovely. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ok, so boy names... I have a Reed; our original boy names were George Edward or Frank Gordon. I really, really, really like Matthew. You need something that 'goes' with Steiger, though... I may not have been any help, at all!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. My top boy names were Parker Alexander and Cade Nathaniel. Neither of which managed to get used, go figure!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm more traditional when it comes to baby names ~ our little guy is a Justin. It sounds like you need something more unique ~ my suggestions are Parker, Deacon, Boston, Bentley, Dante, and Asher. All the best for a healthy and comfortable last half of your pregnancy too!
    ourbusylittlebunch(at)hotmail(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  39. And for a boy's name I would like to recommend Caleb! My Dad loved that name [so do I] and I never had a chance to use it!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Congrats! Cute bag and cute fabric. My boy suggestions are Rigby, Ridley, Rigley, Zade and for a girl (?) Kayzlee. A couple of those are my cousins' kids names :) They like original names too.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have a friend whom named her son,Uriah from the bible, very different and from God's Word:)

Healthy baby= happy parents to be!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Congratulations on your healthy baby!

You could always choose a gender neutral name like Taylor... But I'm kind of against those.

My suggestion? Michael or Mark. I am a public school teacher and haven't met many of either, nor have I come across too many Daniels.

    So there's three possibilities!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Aww, i'm so excited for you! that's wonderful. You probably won't like my name suggestions. We like pretty tradional names - boring I know. My favorite boy name is Andrew - with Drew for short.

    ReplyDelete
  44. How about Zander? It's different!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm a follower! Thanks for the nice giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am so glad you found out that the baby is healthy, healthy, healthy!!!

I have not found out the gender of all five of my babies and it sure makes for interesting conversation. Be prepared for everyone around you to be DYING to know! I was even accused of "lying" that we didn't know!

As for Steiger's possible baby brother's name, I have to say...tough one to beat.

I think maybe a simpler name like Sam would be cute. (This from the mom that named all her babies with "J" names, though!)

    ReplyDelete
  47. To funny, we had tons of boy names planned and are having a hard time coming up with girl names :) For a boy, we love Samuel, mainly because my husband loves sammy as a nick name, Conner, spelled the Irish way, and Mason.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You know I follow you and I just love everything you write and make :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Congrats on the healthy baby. I would give you a name, but it makes me think too much about all the students I have had. It will be hard for me to pick a name when/if I have kids. :) Good luck with pick one.

    ReplyDelete
  50. In the text I sent to my friends and family after my ultrasound I told them it was a chicken, and that in a few months we'd all enjoy chicken wings :) If it's a boy you should name him John Deere? Haha, just kidding.

    ReplyDelete
  51. And I would follow your blog to the end of the earth for some of those dots. They are so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Congratulations and all the best! I thought it might be fun to let you know the 10 most popular names for boys in my country (Belgium) between 2001 and 2011. They are: Robbe, Milan, Thomas, Wout, Senne, Kobe, Seppe, Lars, Daan, and Noah. Maybe these will give you some inspiration!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Congrats on a healthy baby...boo to teasing me :-(
I'm a big supporter of carrying on the dad's name, hence my son is Floyd III....more than likely if I have another son, I will try and incorporate both my dad and his grandfather or my dad's dad in there somewhere (i.e. Jay Rober, Jay Raymond, something like that)...
How did you come up with Steiger? try doing that again!! Cherrio!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. My two favorite boys names are Tanyon (major league pitcher - and what I named my dog since I was done having kids!) and Spencer. I can't to find out what you have!! And thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  55. And I'm a follower - I've been for awhile now - one of my favorite blogs! (Will sucking up help me win???)

    ReplyDelete
  56. You know I'm a follower :)
And you know about my 'issues' with pregnancy and I'm praying (and I'm not the praying type) for a medical intervention free VBAC for you - if it happens it is the most amazingly healing experience :) and if it doesn't you know you will have given it your best bet.
Xander was the name I wanted for Zach but Mark wouldn't have a bar of it. There is an Ethan in Zachs class and a Noah both of which I think are pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Aw.... a BABY! I love the name Collin for a boy, or Conagher.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am currently loving the name Benjamin for a boy. A good Gaelic name like Keiran sounds cool, too. My prayers are out for a healthy birth!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have twin boys so was able to use my two favourite boys names: Flynn and Conor.

    ReplyDelete
  60. (I had already made a suggestion a month or so ago)... I like Sterling for a boy name and think it would be a great follow up to his brothers name!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ima follower! I can't wait for summer either! thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Congrats on the healthy baby! Will keep you in my prayers. For a boys name there are 2 that I like one is Brogan, the other is Zeke.

  64. Keep working on that baby! You are doing a great job so far! As a principal, I see a lot of names. I like the name Mackenzie... Mac for short. I am partial to Eric as we named our son Eric. And Liam is a good name. : )

    ReplyDelete
  65. I liked Ransom(great grandfather) and Oliver(grandma's maiden name) when I was expecting my son. I named him my maiden name McDaniel and he is called Mac. Thanks for a chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  66. HOw about Spencer or Remington? congratulations on your new addition.

    ReplyDelete
  67. We didn't find out the gender of my youngest, either. And to avoid any "strong opinions" from mostly family members, our joke name was Fabio Worldeater. I kept saying to my husband that if it was a boy, that's what I was putting on our hospital records. We ended up going with Marcus. So Fabio Worldeater, Marcus, or Adrian. (That was one of our if-it-was-a-boy middle names that I really love).

    ReplyDelete
  68. And I totally follow. Totally.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Here's my list lol
    for a boy:
    braxton
    denver
    jayce

    for a girl:
    maddix
    aliston

    hope he/she's healthy!! :)

  72. I love all the comments! OH, this is so wonderful! Steiger is going to be such a great big bro! Perhaps you could tell us if you like anything so far so we can get on that line..Anyway, my Aidan is Irish so here's a few others we thought about:
Rhys, Rowan, Devin, Liam (Irish for William), Ian (John), Quinn, Gavin, Blaise, Ronan.

and dare I say Case? You know why...

  73. Congratulations! My youngest just turned one a month ago and I cannot believe it! I feel like boys' names are so much more difficult to choose than girls names. I have a son and two daughters and my husband and I could think of so many girls names that we liked, but it took us so long to decide on our son's name. Our son's name is Brendan, and I like that people have heard of the name, but that it is a bit unique. If our one year old had been a boy, we liked the names Evan and Owen.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well, the name Rod would go well with Steiger (sorry, couldn't resist). I have a grandson named Arlo, which I love - the name and the kid!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm a follower! Thanks for the giveaway-love those fabrics!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I like Reid,Calvin,Oliver,Mason,Cole and Otto. Best of luck!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Congrats on healthy! I was lucky to have two flawless pregnancies. So I am with you on cherishing the healthy! On boys names I think to go with Steiger, how about Caleb, Edward, or Jacob.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I am a follower as well! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  79. I have had fertility issues and the boy names I had on reserve were Issac and Ezekiel, "Zeke" for short.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Boy names, huh? Chet, Percival, or Vaughan. My favorite? Stanton. I think that's such a strong-sound name.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Congrats on the healthy baby! What about the name Alexander? Or Jack? Or Erick?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Your baby pix are so sweet! Love those profile sonograms. You know I'm fond of Tate (and I think it sounds good with Jacobson!).

    ReplyDelete
  83. You'll get a lot of suggestions from your followers, I'm sure.
As I am a follower, I can go twice (Yeah!).
I just have to say something on the names of people you either like or don't, as is the case with your pupils.
I have always loved jewish names, especially Miriam. Just before my first pregnancy I got to know a girl called Miriam and I absolutely did not like her; from the beginning!
So I didn't call my daughter Miriam but Esther.
But after a few years I realised that the other Miriam would have been a mere shadow of my own girl. You forget about 'bad' things or people when your own child is concerned.
I don't regret not having called my daughter Miriam, in fact I named her Francine Esther.
I still think both are beautiful names.
I'll get back to you for a boy's name!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I like traditional names. What about Thomas or Michael?
    Bye
    Susanne

    ReplyDelete
  85. And of course I follow :)
    Bye
    Susanne

    ReplyDelete
  86. You're brave to take on suggestions :) Although I totally understand; we are in the same position with girl names. Our lists are vastly different.
For boy names, I like Oliver, Josiah, Levi. I think Jedidiah ("Jed") would go well with Steiger's name and your last name! Jed Jacobsen. Sounds manly :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'll suggest my boys names, because I obviously like them! Drew (short for Andrew) and Noah. I also think Mitchell would go nicely with your last name. :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. To go with his big brother, you definitely need a strong name. Max Allen Jacobsen has a nice ring to it. Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Congratulations!!!! and what a terrific giveaway. I'm very bad with names even more considering english is not my mother tongue but I've always loved irish/scottish names such as Seamus or Sean.

  91. OK a boy's name:
Rather difficult, as I'm from the Netherlands, but I'll give you a few suggestions anyway:

    Laurence
    Jonathan

are my favourite English boy's names
But as Jacobsen is a Swedish (is it) name you might think in that direction.

    Torben or Thorben
ends in -en- but I like it.

And the meaning of a name can be taken in account, too:

    Vincent = invincible
Michael = who is as God (once he's 20?)

And I always think that short names are strong, like
    Paul
    Jack
    James
    John

And there are sooooo many beautiful biblical names too.
OK I get your problem ...
I know it was difficult for me twice!
And then my (2nd) husband brought three children with him, all with beautiful names (Dutch ones ...)

    PS love the fabrics too!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Congratulations!
How about Andrew for the first name.
And as far as the middle name well Michael would work.
    Connie F

    ReplyDelete
  93. My nephews are Beckett and Maxwell. So cute!

    ReplyDelete
  94. What do you think of Elliot? Thanks for such an inspirational blog!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'll just give first name suggestions and let you worry about the middle name if it is something you like.

Isaac, Quinn/Quinten, Zane, Joshua, Aaron, Finn.

I have known some who have used a grandmothers, or mothers maiden name and used as a first name as well.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I like the boy names Ryder, Trent and Jack.

    ReplyDelete
  97. My boys are Jack and Alex. I think they are nice strong names and people say they are lovely kids. Naming them is so hard. Good luck with your choice, I know you will make the right decision.

  98. Congratulations on your pregnancy and thanks for offering this giveaway! It's definitely a challenge to think of a name original enough to follow Steiger. Some of my ideas for boy's names are Brimley, Powell, Flynn, Winfield, Cooper, Heath, and Crawford. Good luck with everything!

    ReplyDelete
  99. i'm also a follower now, thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  100. I'm for simple names, tho I do like Steiger. William is my most favorite name for a boy.
Love that bag too, lucky person who's getting it!

    ReplyDelete
  101. I'm from BC in Canada and our team, the Vancouver Canucks, are in the Stanley Cup Finals.
I heard recently that some BC boy babies have been named Kesler, after the last name of the one of the players. Beside that, I think the name has a nice ring to it and is very strong.
Good luck! My daughter had a very successful VBAC birth last year - had a boy and named him Spencer - another nice name.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Yay for the good sono! Here is my all-time favorite boy first and middle name (that I'll never be able to use): Brody Quinn. I also like Tyson a lot for a boy name. Good luck choosing!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I am a follower, if it's not too late already.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hey Tracey,
I think that my younger brother's name might work for you all. His name was Thaddeus. I think that competes well enough with Steiger. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  105. Oh I follow you, you follow me...we're just a bunch of followers. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Only because I have two daughters, I hope you have a girl! And because you live SO far away, I'll share my boy name for if we ever have one:

    Thompson

Old, great, and you can shorten it up if need be. That's my pick!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hoping you continue to have a healthy pregnancy and an easier delivery this time around.

My favorite boy names are Elijah (or Elias), Levi and Keiran.

    ReplyDelete
  108. The Top 10 favourite names for boys and girls in Austria, Europe, are:

    1 Lukas Leonie
    2 Tobias Sarah
    3 Julian Anna
    4 Simon Hannah
    5 Maximilian Lena
    6 David Julia
    7 Sebastian Sophie
    8 Alexander Katharina
    9 Felix Laura
    10 Florian Lara

Those names are traditional, often from the bible, maybe they´ll give you some inspiration. My favourite names for boys would be Louis, Theo, Emil
