First up --
You might be sick of seeing it by now, but I finished my Urban Lattice quilt top.
I've been talking emailing with Wendy, and she mentioned Greenfield Hill for the backing. I was thinking this plaid print, with maybe a little of the chevron pieced in???
This week, I also got eight of these blocks made for my niece's quilt (she's due March 1!)

I'm toying with the idea of writing this quilt up in to a pattern... what do you all think?

Somewhat sadly, sewing has slowed down in my world.
This week, I went back to work *gulp*
I think I've told you all that I live in the middle of nowhere? Well... in that middle of nowhere, I used to work at the very tiny high school where I also happen to be an alumna. A few days ago, they asked if I'd be interested in taking back my old position as English teacher, as the person who took my place got a job in a much bigger place than out here.
I'll now be there three days/week until the end of the school year (I'm not planning on going back full-time any time soon).
Of course I already miss Steiger (and sewing) like crazy, but he gets to stay with Grandma or Daddy, so I feel pretty good about that.
I also feel pretty good about the fact that my vocabulary adjusted quickly from topics of trains and milk and pee-pee to things like persuasion, and paradox, and context.
Please don't forget about me if I can't be in blogland as often, and believe me that I'll miss you!
Congratulations on going back to work :) How nice that you can have the best of both worlds by working three days a week :) What a good deal :)
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where you've been! Congrats on taking the job. It does sound like a good compromise!
ReplyDeletewelcome back to the world of teaching!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to the world of adult (or semi-adult!) conversation! I know you'll miss Steiger, but think how much he'll appreciate you when you are there! Your lattice quilt is great, and I like the two fabrics you're looking at for backing.
ReplyDeleteGood luck transitioning back to working outside your home - you'll be awesome! I can definitely tell you have a teaching background with your rockin' tutorials/quilt-alongs.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is just so peaceful to look at. It may sound silly, but that is what I feel when I look at it. I LOVE those chevrons, please include them!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new-old job!!!
The top looks GREAT and be firm in that "not going back full time anytime soon" idea. I went back part time for a year and somehow I got roped into full time and I've regretted it ever since! It took 6 years to start to whittle my hours back down a bit, and even so I only whittled them back 1 hour/day. Now where's that lottery ticket so I can tell them they have to accept my drastically reduced hours or say goodbye to me forever?
ReplyDeleteIm here to chat via email whenever you are bored at school :)
ReplyDeleteUrban Lattice is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove the diamond quilt blocks - YES pattern!!!
Best to you on work return! You'll be great.
Good for you! You'll appreciate this space so much more! I Know with my 4 year old in preschool 2 days and day care one, I relish the creative talk! Love your quilting and love that you're new to it!!
ReplyDeleteThe Greenfield Hill will look great on the back of that quilt! Congrats on going back to work...although you know we'll miss you here :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on going back to work mate, It is a hard adjustment huh? You won't know yourself using big words again! Don't know that you'll be able to use the same discipline techniques on the older kids :)
ReplyDeleteFirst, I don't think I'll ever get sick of your Urban Lattice quilt. Love. And yes please to the chevrons.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I'd love to see those diamonds in a pattern. I've got diamonds on the brain lately.
Finally, "congratulations" on going back to work. The quotes are to acknowledge how tough it is to make the decision, and to be away from one's kid and quilting. But try to enjoy the ability to eat lunch (more or less) uninterrupted and to go pee without an audience or having to leave the door open. :)
welcome back to school land. I am a elem. principal. Sewing is a weekend pursuit for me. : ) Love the quilt top. Love the girlie quilt.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news about work, especially that S gets to hang out with his grandma or his Daddy! Jay's quilt is incredibly manly in all it's gorgeousness (LOVE the mixed neutrals look) and your niece's quilt will be so pretty - are you making a lonestar with those diamond sections?
ReplyDeleteFirstly, definitely not sick of that quilt - it's stunning!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, you'll be forgiven for any lapses of posting - I'm back to work (3 days a week as well) as a high school teacher on Friday, after more than 1 year maternity leave. I know my sewing and posting and even reading blogs will suffer!
Best of luck adjusting to your new routine.
Good for you for going back to work. It will be good for all of you. You're lucky to have family to help you out and Steiger will still be surrounded by love. Even if you don't have time to blog could you just put up pictures of Steiger? We will miss all of you.
ReplyDeleteWe will miss you to. Those kids will be lucky to have you though. seems like a fair exchange :)
ReplyDeleteWow! It must be the english teacher in you, lol, being able to change language sets so easily. Working a few days a week will be good. Just think of all of the inspiration you'll get from your students! You and Steiger are lucky to have family to step in.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Good Luck, and I may never write another comment here now that I know you're an English teacher, just kidding.
I think your Urban Lattice quilt is my very favorite. Love the 2 backings you've shown but a little partial to the chevrons. At least it is only part-time teaching right now and your little one is with family when your gone.
ReplyDeleteI know; I said it before; but I love the colours of your urban lattice...best colours I've seen...
ReplyDeleteYour Urban Lattice quilt is beautiful. I can't wait to see the final project.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, part time sounds like a good compromise. I adore those chevrons, they will look great on the back of your Urban Lattice quilt, which I adore :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck at work! I'm a high school teacher, too, and I know how hard (yet rewarding) it can be!
ReplyDeleteYour urban lattice is beautiful! And I love both choices for the backing. I would love a tutorial on that diamond block. Very nice! Good luck with the transition back to work. It's so hard.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness the urban lattice quilt top is gorgeous! Good luck with the job....
ReplyDeleteyour quilt looks GORGEOUS!!!!!
ReplyDeletealso, lets get together soon, I'll teach you to paper piece...I think we are only like, 20 minutes apart!!!!! And we can talk rice! haha ;)
Your creations look gorgeous. Good luck with settling back into work. I work 3 days a week. I love the balance I have. I really love the stimulation work gives me.
ReplyDeleteI will never be sick of seeing that Urban Lattice quilt. : ) And I say "Yes please" to the diamond quilt pattern.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being back at work! I'm sure you miss Steiger, but it sounds like a very good situation.
Thanks for linking up with WIP Wednesday, have a wonderful week!
I would love to see a tutorial of that adorable quilt...It looks like you used Sunkissed from Sweetwater, is that right?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Urban Lattice - I will be doing my soon. It looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteWow back to work!? What's that like. I love being home with the kids but sometimes I really miss work. I miss getting a paycheck and I miss being able to make friends easily. It has been nearly impossible since I stopped working.
ReplyDeleteYes, a pattern please.
